Making it Count

The team filled its top two positional needs with CB Corey Webster and DE Justin Tuck. Both will have a chance to play regularly at positions where there is no established depth. Webster offers a nice blend of size and speed; perhaps most important, he also has a feel for making interceptions. Starting CBs Will Peterson and Will Allen have not created many turnovers; Allen in particular has dropped several potential picks. Tuck, Notre Dame's career leader in sacks, has nice quickness and good inside moves. The most urgent need on offense was a young backup to RB Tiki Barber, preferably one who could aid an anemic short-yardage game. Brandon Jacobs (6-4, 267) could fill that need.
