The ever-evolving backup quarterback situation took more twists as the team acquired Tim Hasselbeck off waivers and reached an injury settlement with Jim Miller, who had hip surgery in April.
The moves set up a training camp battle for the No. 2 job behind Eli Manning between Hasselbeck, 27, and Jesse Palmer, 26.
The two are six months apart in age and have about the same level of experience, which is not much. Palmer might have a leg up because of his strong arm, familiarity with the system, comfort level with the coaches and close friendship with Manning.
But coach Tom Coughlin likes Hasselbeck's spunk and knows his family well, having recruited and coached his older brother, Matt, at Boston College.
Jared Lorenzen figures to be the fourth passer in camp and if he performs well could earn a spot on the practice squad.
